Endless Ranches

Posted on Mar 22, 2019

I spent eleven years in Dayton, Ohio, more specifically, Kettering, located in the south suburbs. Every once in awhile I’d get lost due to the sameness of the houses. There were seemingly endless developments, all filled with brick, ranch style homes.

For my Endless Ranches gif I built my assets in a layered Adobe Illustrator file. (One layer for the houses, two for clouds, one for lawn/driveway/street, etc.) Imported into Adobe After Effects, I positioned the separate layers in 3d space, attached them all to a null layer, then animated the null. – Joe Gast

This is great! I used to have a friend in Huber Heights and I would get lost driving to his house from Toledo because, as you said, all the houses look the same. I would find it because right before i’d Get there, there was a shiny new metal light post that had recently been replaced because my same friend had struck it with his car one night. He had fallen asleep at the wheel a house down from his own.
