Dingbats in 3d Space

Posted on Mar 7, 2012

I wanted to explore using a null object to control a group of layers in Adobe After Effects. I built a layered Adobe Illustrator file (you don’t need to be an illustrator here, I used type dingbats) with one object/dingbat on each layer (e.g., eyes, skull, wings, and shield). After importing the Illustrator file into After Effects, I turned the layers into 3d layers and added a bevel to each layer. I parented the layers to a newly created null object layer, moving the null object in Y and X rotation. – Joe Gast
