Where Griffins Are Born

Posted on May 4, 2011

This model is definitely a work in progress. Generally I sketch before opening  Autodesk 3ds Max and building. I knew that I wanted to do something with the pillars that I had created and posted earlier. I opened the Max pillar file, and without much thought constructed a dome for the pillars to support.

My model needs work, and certainly requires more texturing, but there is something magical here, perhaps it is the mystical place where griffins are born. – Joe Gast

Note: I’ve attached the final model below. The heavily textured structure is fairly low-poly, other than the leaf-like wings. I rendered in Max, brought the render into Adobe Photoshop where I painted a background and added light streaming through the opening in the dome’s roof. Hopefully I’ve retained the ethereal quality of my earlier rough.
