Speed Painting for the Sluggish

Posted on Oct 3, 2010

This image for my Concept Art class began with a photo that I found on flickr.com (see below). Students were asked to create a speed painting (a quick, loose Photoshop sketch) based on a photo. I found the photo, began the project, but failed on the speed part, as my artwork slowly became tighter and tighter.

Despite my failure, I thought the image had great potential. In the illustration business one quickly learns that opposites make for interesting artwork. A highway is fast, so add something very, very slow. How about a gigantic slug? – Joe Gast
